MY POWER RANKINGS (WEEK 14)

December 15th, 2010, Wednesday

MY NFL Team Power Rankings
(Thru Week Fourteen)

After watching Tom Brady completely dismantle the Monsters of the Midway last Sunday passing for 369 yards and tossing two scores, it can no longer be denied; the Patriots are the best team in the league (as if anyone didn’t already know). The Falcons continue to stake their claim as the best team keeping pace with the Patriots tied for the best record in the league.

With these two teams clearly creating separation from the rest, there are a few teams like the Steelers, Eagles, and Ravens doing their best to stay in the hunt. Let’s not forget the Saints who are not just the defending champs, but are also quietly making their case and a strong run to the top.

Thursday night kicks off week 15 and with the season winding down and the playoffs nearing there are a lot of critical matchups this weekend that will have an impact on the post season and next week’s rankings...

For now, here’s how I rank them thru week 14….

Top 10
(Does not include Thursday’s game)

1. New England Patriots (11-2): Brady and company blitzed the Bears 36-7 last week in the windy and blizzard city clearly looking head and shoulders above the rest of the league.
2. Atlanta Falcons (11-2): The Falcons only slip because the Patriots are undeniably the best at this moment. Without question the Dirty Birds are legit and will have their statement game on Monday night in the Georgia Dome in week 16.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-3): The Steelers continue to get it done with great defense (ranked 4th overall). In their last four games the defense has allowed an average of nine points.
4. New Orleans Saints (10-3): The Saints have now won six straight and are poised and ready for the big Monday night showdown with the Falcons. The Saints offense is hot and on a roll; they have scored 30 or more points in five straight games.
5. Philadelphia Eagles (9-4): The Eagles have one of the most dynamic offenses in the league. With Vick at the helm the Eagles have won five of their last six games and are averaging 33.7 points per contest.
6. New York Giants (9-4): The Giants have now won three straight and the division title could very much come down to this weekend’s matchup with the Eagles. The Giant’s last loss came at the hands of the Eagles back in week 11.
7. Baltimore Ravens (9-4): The Ravens have had some ups and downs in recent weeks. In their last five games, they are 3-2 with both losses coming against top 10 teams (Falcons, Steelers).
8. New York Jets (9-4): The Jets have officially hit the skids. They have dropped two straight and have fallen two games back of the Patriots. With their offense struggling (no touchdowns in their last eight quarters) and a Sunday matchup with the Steelers, just making the playoffs is now a concern.
9. Chicago Bears (9-4): The Bears welcomed the Patriots to their windy city with blizzard-like conditions and Tom Brady turned it into his own winter wonderland. Fortunately for the Bears they still managed to cling to their one game division lead. With a Monday night matchup against the Vikings, Cutler and company will be looking to take another step closer to a division title.
10. Green Bay Packers (8-5): The Packers lost a divisional matchup on the road last Sunday and their starting quarterback to injury. With the season winding down and fewer games left, time is running out on the Packers to catch the Bears. Their prospects don’t get any better with a week 15 matchup against the Patriots Sunday night; add the possibility of no Aaron Rodgers and it just got worse.

The Rest of the league
